ZEE News channel blacked out in Punjab

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has blacked out the transmission of ZEE News without issuing any formal notice. Numerous viewers across Punjab have reported being unable to access the channel, confirming the blackout. Despite initial reports suggesting that other ZEE channels in Hindi, English, and Punjabi were also affected, these channels appear to be broadcasting as usual.

The blackout coincides with ZEE News’ extensive coverage of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, where the channel has been vocal about various issues faced by the people and has highlighted the perceived shortcomings of the state government. This coverage seems to have drawn the ire of the Punjab administration, leading to the sudden disruption of the channel’s broadcast.

The decision has sparked significant concern and debate about media freedom and government transparency. Critics argue that the move undermines the democratic principle of free press, especially during a critical election period when the electorate relies on diverse media perspectives to make informed decisions.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Punjab government explaining the rationale behind the blackout.
