Ofcom consults on Sunrise Radio’s request to renew AM licence based on national DAB

Ofcom is consulting on a request from Sunrise Radio to add its Greater London AM licence to the list of approved local AM or FM commercial radio licences which can be renewed based on providing a national DAB service.

Sunrise Radio, which broadcasts on 963AM and 972AM, offers a music-led service for London Asians, primarily targeting those age 15-34.

Local analogue commercial radio licences can be renewed for periods of seven, five, and ten years if the licensee is providing a local digital sound programme service on a ‘relevant’ local or small-scale radio multiplex service, or a national digital sound programme service on a national radio multiplex service. The period for which the licence can be renewed depends on when the licence was last granted following advertisement or re-advertisement, and/or how many times it has previously been renewed.

Ofcom is seeking responses from interested parties, which must be submitted by 6th October 2023. Details here to submit.

Sunrise Radio’s current analogue licence expires in 2027.
