Lyca Gold Radio launches six-month special to mark 100th Birth Anniversary of Mohammed Rafi

Lyca Gold Radio, the UK’s premier retro Asian music station, has announced a six-month special content plan to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the legendary Mohammed Rafi.

From Monday, 1st July until 31st December 2024, ‘Sau Saal Pehle’ (named after Rafi’s renowned song from ‘Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai’), will feature Lyca Gold Radio presenters playing a blend of chartbusters and rare gems to celebrate the iconic playback singer.

This period also coincides with Rafi’s death anniversary on 31st July. He passed away in 1980, and his final song recording was reportedly “Tu Kahin Aas Paas Hai Dost” for the 1981 film ‘Aas Paas’.

In addition to on-air music, presenters from Lyca Gold Radio have recorded special segments under the ‘Sau Saal Pehle’ brand, offering listeners fascinating facts and cherished memories of Rafi.

Raj Baddhan, CEO of Lyca Radio Network, shared, “We launched Lyca Gold Radio three years ago with the mission of celebrating legendary artists like Mohammed Rafi Ji. Rafi Saab is a true icon in Indian music, whose voice and songs have left an indelible mark on generations of listeners. His ability to evoke deep emotions and nostalgia through his music is unmatched. At Lyca Gold Radio, we take immense pride in playing his timeless classics. Dedicating a six-month special to commemorate his 100th birth anniversary was essential to honour his iconic voice and lasting influence on music. I’m also really thankful to my team for help making this special tribute possible.”

Lyca Gold Radio is available in Greater London and via the ‘Lyca Radio’ mobile app.
