Karisma Kapoor 50th Special: Five actors the actress shared screen space with

Karisma Kapoor turns 50 this year and while the actress may not be doing any films at the moment one can’t help but remember some of the great work she has done in the past. Not only the films she did but her pairings with certain actors are missed. She has worked many big names in the film industry such as Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan.

On this occasion BizAsiaLive.com will look back at some of the co stars that the actress has shared screen space with.

Karisma Kapoor alongside Suniel Shetty

Suniel Shetty

For kids growing up in the 90s Suniel Shetty was known as an action star whose films would have comedy, romance and of course action.

In 1994 Kapoor and Shetty came together for the action, comedy ‘Gopi Kishan’ in which the latter played a double role. After the success of this film two years later they appeared in at least three films together but in the film ‘Sapoot’ (1996) they were paired opposite different actors.

This pairing were lucky to have so many popular songs picturised on them. Who can forget the catchy sundara sundara from ‘Rakshak’ (1996) that was filmed at the beach. Then there was the romantic number jhanjhariya from ‘Krishna’ (1996) that was such a hit that two versions were created. One was in the vocals of Abhijeet Bhattacharya with Shetty and Kapoor dancing in the dessert with lots of back up dancers.

The second version was sung by Alka Yagnik and had Kapoor’s character performing on stage. The actress had at least fourteen costume changes in which she wore both traditional Indian outfits as well as western dresses.

In 2003 Kapoor and Shetty did work together alongside Dino Morea in the thriller ‘Baaz’ but unfortunately the film failed to do well at the box office. However with the right script and some great songs perhaps this pairing could be able to create that same magic once again.

Karisma Kapoor with Juhi Chawla & Anil Kapoor

Govinda

Govinda is a legend who has worked with some of the best actresses in his career. If one had to mention an actress who he had really good chemistry with then surely Kapoor would be on that list. Kapoor and Govinda have worked in over five films together. ‘Raja Babu’ (1994) was one of their earlier super hit films and it wouldn’t be wrong to say that over the years they continued to create one hit after another. The audience loved them.

Even the songs they did together had a lot of energy and when they performed they lit the screen on fire. One song that has been recreated but couldn’t match up to the performances of Kapoor and Govinda was husn hai suhana from ‘Coolie No 1’ (1995). Fans of the original will remember the complex moves that both the actors did and their expressions. Another iconic song of theirs has been recreated in the recently released ‘Crew’ (2024) starring Kapoor’s sister Kareena Kapoor Khan. After the new version was released many decided it was time to listen to the original from ‘Hero No.1’ (1997) and relive the magic of that era. Who can forget Govinda in his mustard, yellow blazer acting like he has no time for Kapoor while she expresses her love for him surrounded by a sea of people watching them.

Salman Khan

This was a pairing that the audience couldn’t get enough of. Usually their films would be in the genre of romantic comedies but no one was complaining as they looked perfect together. ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994) at the time failed to do well at the box office but today is considered a cult classic. The song yeh raat aur yeh doori will bring back so many memories for many especially of how young and cute the two looked together. They worked in over six films together and most of them were big hits, one of them being the 1997 film ‘Judwaa’.

This was another duo who had some great songs composed for their films. The romantic melody chori chori sapno mein aata hai koi from ‘Chal Mere Bhai’ (2000) was loved by many for its simplicity yet beautiful lyrics. Another popular song from the same film was the upbeat number thodi si beqarari with both actors looking stylish as ever and the chemistry between them was out of this world.

Fans of Kapoor and Khan wait for the day both actors will reunite on the big screen and revive that same chemistry once again.

Sunny Deol

While this jodi hasn’t done many films together their pairing seems to stand out a lot. Perhaps it was their strong performance in the film ‘Jeet’ (1996) that made it seem like they’ve worked in many projects together. Sunny Deol might not be the first actor one would think to pair up with Kapoor but in this film they proved they work well. There were so many intense scenes between the two in which they acted extremely well.

The soundtrack of this film was a huge hit with many memorable tunes, one of them being tu dharti pe chaahe jahan bhi rahegi. Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik sang this romantic song beautifully with Nadeem-Shravan doing full justice with the melody. A special mention to the lyricist Sameer who brought the emotions of the characters to life with his beautiful words.

Later on that year they appeared in another film together called ‘Ajay’ (1996) which featured the song chamak challo. Deol’s dance steps were and still are the main topic of discussion in this song. This pairing might not have been as famous as the other pairings listed but they did have potential.

Karisma Kapoor & Akshay Kumar in ‘Ek Rishtaa’

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar and Kapoor were another pairing that worked in numerous films together. One film they worked in was ‘Jaanwar’ (1999), the story was entertaining and the songs were a hit. Songs like mera yaar dildaar and mausam ki tarah that were picturised on Kapoor and Kumar were loved by the audience. A few years later they appeared in the family drama ‘Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love’ (2001) which had a huge star cast.

Over the years they have worked together in a lot of films with some films doing really well and others doing average however their pairing has always been appreciated by many.

The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Karisma Kapoor a very happy 50th birthday. For more features and entertainment news check out the website for more details.
