Hotstar launches in UK with two subscription plans

The much awaited launch of Star TV’s digital platform, Hotstar has quietly taken place.

The broadcaster, which is expected to make an official announcement of Hotstar’s UK launch soon, gave the strongest hint to BizAsiaLive.com a few weeks ago about its launch in an exclusive interview with Gaurav Jandwani – Senior Vice President & Business Head for Star UK/Europe & South Africa. Watch it back here.

Hotstar has been subtly in the UK previously but this is the first time live and current Star TV content has been made available. This is also the first time subscription plans have been published.

The Hotstar website here has two price plans:

Monthly – £11.99
Annually – £59.99 – Saving of £84

As well as a catch-up service of Star TV shows, Hotstar will be streaming exclusive sports including:
– The Asia Cup cricket
– India Vs West Indies cricket
– Australia Vs India cricket
– ICC World Cup

The streaming giant also holds rights to a number of kabaddi, hockey and badminton tournaments. Hotstar will also be streaming shows in seven different languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam) from the Star TV library. This is the first time viewers in the UK will have access to Star TV programmes in these languages (excluding Bengali). Hotstar also holds the streaming rights to a number of Hindi and other regional language film titles that are available instantly.

Hotstar is available on mobile devices (iOS & Android) and any computer.
