5 new features to launch on Sky Glass & Sky Stream

Sky Glass and Sky Stream viewers have been treated to 5 new features as part of a series of updates to the Entertainment OS – version 1.3.

The 5 new features coming will be deployed to the television service from May.

1. Reduced Latency For Live Sports
Sky Sports Main Event viewers will be able to watch the channel in Low Latency, reducing the time between the action on the pitch and watching on Sky Glass or Stream. Latency has been reduced by over 20 seconds, which means viewers can watch the sport faster than many other streaming services. Tthe dreaded delay that often plagues crucial matches will be slashed.

Sky Sports Main Event viewers will be able to watch sports in Low Latency over the coming months, before being rolled out to other Sky Sports channels this year.

2. Subtitles For Ultra HD Content
All Ultra HD on demand content, including Sky Nature shows and blockbuster films, will have the option for subtitles by the end of the summer – a feature already available on HD.

3. Voice Remote Commands
Viewers be able to use their voice to add movies and shows to your playlist. Go to the show or movie page and say, “Hello Sky, add to playlist” to save things to watch later – enhancing accessibility and convenience. New commands including “Hello Sky, rewind” will also be available.

4. Rotten Tomatoes Scores
To assist viewers in making informed choices, Rotten Tomatoes scores will now be displayed next to titles – saving the hassle of googling a rating before jumping into a movie, as well as a range of new icons.

This feature, already popular on Sky Q, will now be available on Sky Glass and Sky Stream, offering users a convenient way to gauge the reception of movies and shows.

5. Enhanced Recommendations and Personalisation
Viewers can now personalise playlists even further with a range of new character avatars. Children can choose from popular characters including favourites from ‘Paw Patro’l, ‘Scooby Doo’, ‘Peppa Pig’, ‘SpongeBob’, ‘Trolls’ and ‘Pip & Posy’. More avatars will be added later this year.

Furthermore, a personalized genre rail will appear based on viewers’ watching preferences, making it easier to discover new content. Viewers can also follow their favourite actors and actresses, guaranteeing that any new content featuring them is prominently featured on their content page.
